How to Become a Sheep to Shawl Vendor

  • Contact the Inventory Chair to receive your inventory numbers.

  • The STS inventory sheet comes in the July and August Guild Newsletters. Write your inventory sheets to include ANY AND ALL items that you may have completed and have ready for sale before the end of the fair.  There is no penalty for not bringing all items listed.

  • Two copies of your inventory sheet are due to the Inventory Chair by August 31, 2007. There will be NO exceptions. Please keep a copy for your records.

  • Each day has two shifts: 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM and 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM, however, some shifts may be dismissed at 1:15, if necessary, to vacate needed parking spaces.

  • A sign-in sheet will be inside the demo area. Please sign in when you arrive to work a shift.

  • If you place items for sale in the STS shop, you are expected to work one shift in the STS Shop (or provide a replacement) and five shifts in either the shop or the demonstration area.

  • At the end of the fair, STS computes its commission on individual vendor sales. The commission is tied to the number of shifts worked

  • Shifts worked STS commission

         6          20%

         5          24%

         4          28%

         3          32%

         2          36%

         1          40%

         0          44%

(If you enter fewer than 6 items for sale, you are required to work one shift per item. The commission will be increased over 20% for each required shift you do not work, following the chart above, i.e. if you miss one shift the commission will be 24%, if you miss two shifts the commission will be 28%, etc.)

  • If you cannot work the specified number of shifts you have an option of having another person work your shift(s) either gratis or for pay (you must negotiate with the worker directly).

  • Deliver merchandise to the STS check-in area in the Dairy Barn at the NM State Fair on Thursday, September 6, 2007 between 10 AM and noon. Enter at gate 6 from San Pedro between Central and Lomas. There is not parking fee on Thursday.

  • You or your designee must pick up your unsold items on Monday, September 24, 2007 between 10 AM and noon. Your items will again be inventoried at check-out. You may enter at Gate 6 and park with no fee on Monday.

  • The STS Chairs or Shop Chair will answer questions and make decisions on any merchandise. You may not remove your inventory prior to check-out without approval.

Vendors are expected to work one shift in the shop.  This rule hasn't been enforced in recent years but circumstances have forced the STS committee to be more strict. I have the shop sign up sheet along with the others involving getting the space ready and the equipment moved from storage to the fair grounds. I need lots of people to sign up for Thursday the 6th for checking in merchandise and setting up the shop.

Vendors may contact me anytime to get inventory numbers. As a reminder, I put a number, a brief description and a price into the register, not quantities. You may have as many items under the same inventory number as you like as long as they are the same price. It is not necessary to group items by size, color, fiber, etc. I suggest you read the STS pages (23-25)in the Orange membership booklet to refresh your memory or if you have never read those pages now is a good time.

All vendors except Wool Growers are provided neon green, red or orange tags or stickers for each item you have for sale. You may also use your own neon tags or stickers if that is more convenient. List the inventory number and your last name, clearly along with the price. If you have business cards that you use as tags in other sales venues please make sure that the only information, other than the printing of the card, is fiber content and/or cleaning instructions. No prices and no miscellaneous numbers

You are expected to police yourself regarding the 3 year rule, natural fiber requirements as well as the other guidelines for vending. Membership in Las Arañas is not required to participate in STS in any area. You may email the inventory sheets to anyone you know who would like to participate but please pass on the information on pages 23-25 so that person will know what's expected of them.

Please contact me anytime for numbers, questions, suggestions or to sign up.  892-1825, clgieger24@msn.com.
