Las Arañas Spinners and Weavers Guild
Scholarship Program
This scholarship is a development based scholarship. It may be used for
tuition, workshop fees, or travel expenses to a learning event directly related
to Spinning and Weaving. Any Member in Good Standing of Las Las Arãnas
Spinners and Weavers Guild may apply for monetary support in their endeavor to
achieve their goals as a Fiber Artist. An award of a scholarship is an honor and
the recipient will be expected to share their experience with the general
membership. A scholarship will not be awarded for purchase of Spinning or
Weaving equipment or supplies.
Application
Applications are presented in writing to the Board of Directors for approval.
The Board of Directors and the executive officers (President, Vice President,
Treasurer, and Secretary) shall determine the need and/or quality of the
application and will award scholarships The application must include:
- A description of the event; time, place, and instructor. Scholarship
money is intended to help our members attend events that will be of very
high quality, areas that the Guild is lacking in, or might not be offered in
our immediate area. Scholarship Money cannot be used to attend Las Arãnas
sponsored workshops.
- The value to you as a Fiber artist
- The value to the Guild; all applicants must share their experience with
the General Membership in some form.
- The total amount of the event and the amount you are requesting from the
Guild.
Eligibility
Applicants must be Members in Good Standing of Las Las Arãnas
Spinners and Weavers Guild. A Member in Good Standing is defined as any member
who has paid dues to the Guild for three years and has attended at least 10
scheduled General Meetings and/ or scheduled activities during those three
years. A Member in Good Standing is a member that has been active in the Guild
over those three years. Applicants must intend to remain a Member in Good
Standing at least until their commitment to share their experience with the
General Membership has occurred. A member can only receive a scholarship a
maximum of every two years. Therefore, another scholarship application will not
be accepted before two years after the previously approved scholarship. There is
no limit to how many times one can apply and/or receive a scholarship award as
long as the two year interval is taken.
Monetary Amount of Scholarships
The total sum of the year’s scholarships should be at or near $2000. The
Board will be striving to award no more than six scholarships of $350 per year.
This scholarship will be a reimbursement and will be dispensed in the form of a
check from the Guild after the event.
Responsibility of Recipient
All recipients must produce proof that the money awarded them was used in the
manner intended in the application in the form of receipts for expenses such as
class fees and travel costs. All recipients of scholarships will be required to
share their experiences with the General Membership of the Guild. The manner in
which the applicant chooses to share is part of the evaluation of the merit of
the application. The applicant may not use the Scholarship awarded them for an
event that has not been approved by the Board on the original application.

The Board of Directors reserves the right to suspend or continue the
Scholarship program based on availability of funds.
