Nancy Brouillard, Leader
Las Arañas New Weavers Initiative Taskforce
Last Fall Las Arañas received an award from Handwoven magazine to present
programs for New Weavers. Las Arañas has also given funds for this project. A
taskforce was formed and has planned the following programs. All the programs
will be held on Saturdays from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the
home of Ruth Ronan.
The programs are designed as a
“Weavers’ Review.” We encourage NEW weavers to attend. (No definition has been
attempted as to what a “new” weaver is. If you consider yourself in that
category – please plan to come.) However, these are NOT beginning weaving
classes. We assume you have already at least once wound a warp, threaded a loom
and woven a piece. Also, these are demonstrations only, not hands on. They are
“Reviews.”
March 15, 2008—Planning a Weaving Project
March 29, 2008—Winding Warps
April 12, 2008—Warping Back to Front
April 26. 2008—Warping Front to Back
May 10, 2008—Tie-up and Weaving
June 14, 2008—Using Computer Programs for Weaving
Though the programs are FREE to
participants, there are only a few caveats:
-
Please contact Nancy
Brouillard (nbrouill@cybermesa.com). This is because we plan to have fairly
detailed notes for each session. We want weavers to watch and not have to
have their heads down writing. We’ll need to know how many copies to print
and how many chairs to set up.
-
You must be a Guild Member to
attend. (Dues for the year for new members as of March are $21.)
Attend as many sessions as you can. They will not be tied to one another and
missing one will not cause problems. For example, you do not need to attend
the “Winding Warps” mini-workshop to attend the warping workshops. But
attending all of them should give you more confidence to warp a loom and
weave a project.
-
We’ll want feed back, both
from those attending and those who could not, so that we can pursue further
programs.
-
And as part of this New
Weavers’ Initiative, we will also offer help to anyone outside of the
scheduled programs. So, for example, if you want to attend one of the
Guild’s sponsored workshops, but you feel you need assistance in preparing
your loom, you can contact us and we will try and hook you up with someone
to help you.
