Las Arañas Scholarship Program - 2023
One of the primary missions of Las Arañas is education. Las Aranas Spinners and Weavers Guild has several scholarship funds that are available to active members. The intent of the scholarships is to provide funds to be applied towards attending a workshop or class. Scholarships are not awarded for the purchase of spinning, weaving, or dyeing equipment or supplies. Award of a Scholarship is an honor and the recipient will be expected to share their experiences with the general membership within 2 years of completion of the event. Scholarship recipient may fulfill that commitment by either making a presentation at a General Membership meeting or submitting an article to the Guild’s monthly newsletter.
Scholarship applications are made to the Board in care of the the President a least 1 month prior to the workshop or class. Further information about available scholarships is in the Las Aranas Spinners and Weavers Guild membership book.
Eligibility
Applicants must be an active member of Las Arañas Spinners and Weavers Guild. An active member is defined as any member who has paid dues to the Guild for two years and has participated in General Meetings and/or scheduled activities during those two years. Applicants must remain an active member at least until their commitment to share their experience with the General Membership has occurred.
A member can only receive a scholarship a maximum of every two years; another scholarship application will not be accepted before two years after the granting of a previous scholarship. There is no limit as to how many scholarships one can be awarded as long as the two year interval is taken.
Responsibility of Recipient
All recipients must produce proof that the money awarded them was used in the manner intended in the application in the form of receipts for expenses such as class fees and travel costs that are not covered by other scholarships.
All recipients of scholarships will be required to share their experiences with the General Membership of the Guild within 2 years of the completion of the event. The manner in which the applicant chooses to share is part of the evaluation of the merit of the application. The applicant may not use the scholarship awarded them for an event that has not been approved by the Board on the original application.
